Overview
Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are a distinct group of cancers. Dr. Sirohi chaired the ICMR NET guidelines, co-founded NET forums in India and is active in the Asia-Pacific Neuroendocrine Tumour Society.
What it is
NETs arise from neuroendocrine cells and can behave very differently from more common cancers, sometimes producing hormones.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis involves specialised imaging (e.g. Ga-68 DOTATATE PET), biochemical markers and biopsy with grading.
Treatment Approaches
Treatment may include surgery, somatostatin analogues, peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), targeted therapy and chemotherapy.
